Iran Jails Couple For Viral Dancing Video: Activists

An Iranian court has handed jail sentences of over 10 years each to a young couple who danced in front of one of Tehran's main landmarks in a video seen as a symbol of defiance against the regime, activists said on Tuesday. Astiyazh Haghighi and her fiance Amir Mohammad Ahmadi, both in their early 20s, had been arrested in early November after a video went viral of them dancing romantically in front of the Azadi Tower in Tehran. Haghighi did not wear a headscarf in defiance of the Islamic republic's strict rules for women, while women are also not allowed to dance in public in Iran, let alone with a man. This couple has been sentenced to 10.5 of prison for this public dance in the Azadi Sq in Tehran. It's hard to believe how little moments of joy are being so violently crushed by IR. Dancing in public has become one of the most powerful forms of resistance in Iran. #MahsaAmini pic.twitter.com/Yz3NpFBwIn — Fatemeh (Shahrzad) Shams (@ShazzShams) January 30, 2023 A revo

Budget 2023 To Set Foundation For Growth Amid Global Gloom: 10 Facts

Predictably, India's middle class is looking for some form of income-tax relief. Though the tax slab wasn't changed and no new deduction was announced last year, inflation has eaten into people's earnings. They haven't seen a change in tax rate since 2017-18 and in tax slab since July 2014. Ms Sitharaman may be able to afford a balanced, not a populist, Budget since the general election is still a year and one more Union Budget away. Still, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's BJP hoping to win a third consecutive term, massive welfare programmes for farmers and the rural population can't be ruled out. The Finance Ministry had been considering increasing the limit under 80C, which includes investment in life insurance, fixed deposit, bonds, housing and public provident fund. If this happens, it will encourage savings and help raise rainy day funds of people whose savings were eroded at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. The markets in India - Asia's thi

NASA Image Shows Mars Craters Looking Like A Teddy Bear

Scientists exploring the surface of the red planet, Mars, discovered a fragment of the rocky planet that was grinning back at them. The face of what appears to be an enormous Martian teddy bear, complete with two beady eyes, a button nose, and an upturned mouth, smiles at the camera of NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter in the image released by The University of Arizona on January 25.  The adorable picture was taken by Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter as it cruised roughly 251 kilometres above Mars.  The eyes of the teddy bear are the craters on the planet and the circular fracture pattern seen in the head could have been caused by the "settling of a deposit over a buried impact crater.
